Adobe Camera RAW Overview Video Tutorial

This is the first in the Adobe Camera RAW traning videos, and is a basic overview of the interface.
It does not go into any of the specifics of the different tool or pallets, rather is intended to be a quick familiarization of the interface.
It’s noteworthy that one very important part of this video includes instructions on how to set up Adobe Camera RAW to edit JPEGs. The Photoshop and Bridge help files state that all you need to do is target the JPEG you want to edit in Bridge and use the shortcut ctrl+R (command+R on the mac) It’s well documented on various forums across the internet (as I’ve studied this out of my own frustrations) that this is a known bug in Bridge. The facts seem to be that unless you have the entire CS3 suite installed, including Adobe After Effects which seems to be the one program that is absolutely required for that shortcut to work, you need to set up within the Photoshop preferences to open JPEGs in Adobe Camera RAW. As a matter of fact, I just checked my new Vista install which has the entire suite installed, and bubcus. No Ctrl+ r, no "Open with Adobe Camera RAW", nothing. As I said, it’s a known and well documented bug.
This is a very quick and easy Preferences tweak as shown in the video, but it’s always good to have a written reference, so you can quickly get up to speed if you forget the changes that need to be made and don’t want to watch the video again. This IS your work-around for opening JPEGs in Camera RAW. For the time being, it seems there just is no way to open TIFF files in ACR, which is unfortunate, but it is what it is.
The tweak involves clicking |Edit| |Preferences| and mousing over to |File Handling| and clicking on that selection. The middle section is titled
“File Compatablilty” and the top checkbox is titled "Prefer Adobe Camera RAW for JPEG Files. You check that box to have JPEGS open in Adobe Camera RAW. When this box is checked, no matter if you open a file through drag and drop from a file browser, open it through Adobe Bridge or use the |File| |Open| command in Photoshop, JPEGS will always open in Adobe Camera RAW. You can of course turn this on and off quick and easy by following the above and unchecking that box to open JPEGs directly into Photoshop, skipping the ACR step.
